or 'How to put on a show'

"All the world's a stage..."

But a show or event requires many moving parts.

Not exactly a quote from the Bard himself but there is so much to consider when you want to put on some public entertainment.

For some groups, coming fresh out of university or theatre school, they have been given the tools to tread the boards but getting to appreciate the other elements is a steep laerning curve and I can provide that support.

Areas such as;  practical skills in stage management, technical theatre, set construction, sound, and how to budget are essential things I have years of hands on experience with.  There are a few more that I can advise on too.

Choosing a venue

Where your show or event is being put on in crucial as it dictates how you approach it. Using a local council run theatre is different to community run venue. I can take you through the key differences and how that affects the longevity of a show.

Putting the Team together

Whilst the show might be your vision, you need support around you to make it shine. Having the right team around you can make a world of difference; costumes, lighting, sound, set and props have their own skill-sets and you need to know how to find them and work alongside them.

Budget and Marketing

Is this show designed to make money or raise your profile? Even if making a profit is not your main aim, it’s always wise to know how to keep an eye on your expenses. If its exposure you want, then there are ways and means…

Are you in it or on it?

Whether it is a self devised piece or if you are assembling a cast of 100’s, understanding the pains and pleasures of each can help make the experience easier.

The transition from turning a hobby or qualification into a livelihood can be jarring and sometimes overwhelming. I can guide you through the whole experience from inception to execution.

What happens next?

If you feel like you need me to guide through an active production, then I am more than happy to work alongside you. My input would be in the form of meetings and drop ins to rehearsals.

Depending on the type of production, we could agree a one-off consultancy fee or a percentage of the profit.
