It’s one of the ick bits of business but it needs to be done…
Asking for a testimonial.
Either asking for a recommendation on LinkedIn or sending a Google Review link, you worry about the pressure it puts on the person you are asking. “What if I annoy them? What if it’s not as nice as I hope for?” These are silly little niggles the ‘voice in your head’ throw at you.
The thing is, that’s all those thoughts are. A voice in your head. It’s not based on any facts. And if anything it rails against the actions you have carried out with that client you are asking.
Did you leave them in a happier, more productive or satisfied position than when you started working for them?
If the answer is ‘YES!’ then send those links away to your clients. Maybe with a “You know that thing I did that made you happy? Can you leave me a review telling others what a great job I did?” to make it more obvious what you are after. Be persistent.
Don’t be shy. Reach out and ask.
